LAURA TARTER
What would you tell your 14 year old self?
To not be so concerned about doing everything properly or in ways I think other people would approve of. Figure out what you like to do, who you like to be, and just do that!
What is your definition of success?
When I was in school, my definition of success really centered on getting good grades and being as close to the top of my classes as I could be. Now I think being successful centers more on how I live my life. I try to treat those around me the way I’d like to be treated. I feel successful when I take time out of the routine to do things that help me to grow. I made a goal to try to do something brave every day. Sometimes it’s a small brave thing, giving a compliment to a stranger in a store or restaurant. Sometimes it’s a big brave thing, like sailing across the Pacific from Hawaii to Papeete, Tahiti. But each time I do something brave, that feels just a little or a lot unsafe, I stretch and grow.

Speak up. Speak up when you want something. Speak up when you feel like your life is out of balance. Speak up to praise the women around you. Speak up when you see things you want changed.
