Pearls of Wisdom

What are your thoughts on aging?
My thoughts on aging. I remember when I was a little girl on how I was afraid of growing old. I feel aging is an amazing new stage of opportunity and strength within. Which you can start to step into the fullness of life. One of the most enduring things about women and aging is that it’s like a big deal to me because I’ve successfully made it this far and I have a lot of life experiences which is worth celebrating. Aging is an extra ordinary process where you become the person you always should have been. I’m never too old and it’s never too late.
Younger women, might think that it's scary getting older. What wonderful things can women look forward to at your age?
As I age gracefully, with this new chapter of my life, as I continue to grow, I learn more, along with strength, and confidence. I feel more empowered from life’s challenges to use self-knowledge to help others and share experiences and perspectives.
And the most wonderful thing is that I love the fact that I still continue to feel immensely gorgeous as I age. Own who you are and LOVE it.
Share tips on how you celebrate yourself, what you do for fun, and self care.
For fun, I go and have luncheon once a month with all my girlfriends on a Sunday. We share life stories, family, and we plan our next outing.
Self-care: Moisturize twice a day, take daily multivitamins, drink lots of water, maintain hair, and nails (mani/pedi), upkeep on dental and checkups, walking, and stretching. I also like to drink a warm cup of hot chamomile tea at night before bed.
Share one experience or piece of advice that would lift other women up and empower them.
Be yourself, be confident, feel comfortable in your own skin, and above all love yourself. Don’t be in competition with each other, strive to be the best version of yourself.
What would you tell your 14-year-old self?
I would tell my 14-year-old self that everything is temporary. Surround yourself with those who make you better with support and growth. Consistently spend time around those who teach you, inspire you, and challenge you to become the best possible version of yourself. It’s okay that you haven’t achieved the goals you had said you would achieved by twenty-five.
Who inspired you as a little girl? Who inspires you now?
My Aunt (dad’s sister) inspired me. As a little girl, she taught me how to use a sewing machine, I also learned to hem clothes, sew on a button, and crochet. She made me feel that I could do anything I had my mind set on.
What was your greatest challenge and how did you overcome it?
Balancing home and work life was the greatest challenge for me. During my elementary through high school years, growing up with 4 brothers and both parents working, I had to figure things out on my own. Cook, laundry, clean house, and other chores. I have no regrets because all those experiences kept within me and when I had my own family, I knew I needed to manage my time a bit more, which led me to not be hard on myself. It made me also understand that the quality of time spent with family matters the most.
What is your definition of success?
My definition of success is being the kind of woman that I would want to have as a friend.
If you believe you can, you will succeed.
What is the best advice you have been given?
Best advice was given by both of my previous managers. “Do all you can, see all you can. For you only live once”.
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t. Either way, you’re right “.

The best thing about being a woman is that everything is a little bit sexier when you’re older.
